The Perfect Road Trip
For those looking for a fun fall road trip, check out Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. This U.S. National Park is the longest known cave system in the world and was first established as a national park in 1941.
What Is Mammoth Cave?
Mammoth Cave has more than 400 miles of surveyed caves, and new passageways are discovered each year. There are quite a few cave tours you can choose from to explore the park. The Frozen Niagara tour showcases the most famous part of the cave. The Historic Tour is great for history buffs, and there’s a Mammoth Cave Accessible Tour so everyone can enjoy the beauty of the cave.
Journey By Lantern
If you’re a more adventurous traveler, you can take the Violet City Lantern Tour, which lasts 3 hours and has 160 stairs. On this tour, you travel with lanterns as your only light through broad tunnels. There are many activities to do on land as well if you don’t want to venture into the cave or you want to relax after being underground. You can go canoeing or kayaking down the Green River. You can also go horseback riding or head out on the 84 miles of trails.
We at Champion Chevrolet Buick GMC in La Grange, KY think Mammoth Cave is well worth a day trip. Before driving to the park, stop by our service department for any necessary maintenance.
