We are lucky to live and work in a state that boasts scenic natural beauty and some of the best destinations for horse lovers. Here is a closer look at four road trip destinations in Kentucky that you’ll want to add to your list of summer getaways this year.
Kentucky Horse Park
There is so much to do and see at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington! The site spans 1,244 acres so visitors can learn all about the state’s equestrian history, whether you want to horseback ride, watch a horse show, take a trolley tour, or witness a special event.
Kentucky Derby Museum
Located in Louisville near Champion Buick GMC, the Kentucky Derby Museum offers a range of exhibits and materials that will expand your knowledge of the oldest sporting event in America. There are several tours available each day including a Historic Walking Tour, Horses & Haunts Tour, and Black Heritage in Racing Tour. The Derby Café & Bourbon Bar offers a specialized menu where you can sip a famous mint julep.
Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farms
The Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farms in Georgetown provides a safe haven for 200 rescued and retired horses. The farm stretches across 236 acres, giving the horses plenty of room to roam. You can participate in a guided walking tour, Founders Tour, or an Every Horse on the Farm Tour.
Keeneland Race Course
If you are keen to see an exciting horse race in person, set a course for the Keeneland Race Course. The Keeneland Race Course opened in 1936 and is located in Lexington. Even at off times, there are still jockeys training with their horses on the track that you can watch.
Before you head out on your road trip, be sure to book a maintenance checkup at Champion Chevrolet Buick GMC in La Grange, Kentucky.
