Are you itching to take a road trip in Kentucky but don’t want to travel to the tourist-filled areas? Consider taking a solo or family trip to ghost towns instead. Kentucky has several to visit, each of which is worth the drive from Louisville or La Grange.
Paradise
Sitting along the Green River, Paradise was once a beautiful town. However, after a coal plant arrived, it experienced pollution issues, and people gradually abandoned the area. Now, few structures remain, but it is once again a lovely, picture-worthy area.
Boonesborough
Daniel Boone founded this town in 1775, and it eventually became a popular area for farming. Although Boonesborough disappeared in 1877, you can now check out Fort Boonesborough, which is a replica of the town’s buildings and military fort.
Barthell
Barthell was a coal mining town in 1902, but a coal fire a few years later destroyed many mines and led to the town’s abandonment. Beginning in 1984, a lot of the remaining structures were renovated. You can explore them now to get a sense of what it was once like to live in the town.
